Course Title : First Aid at Work
Duration : 24 Hours Course Code : FA01

This Course is for : All employees to be designated as the First Aider within the workplace.

Course Aims : To provide candidates with the practical skills and knowledge to deal with any first aid emergency.

Course Contents : By the end of the course candidates will have an understanding of:- = Legislation relevant to first aid provision within the workplace = Principles of first aid = Use of equipment = Employers' duties = Records = Personal hygiene

Be able to care for a patient who is:- = Unconscious = Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation = Bleeding or Wounded = Suffering from shock = Has injuries to bones, muscles or joints = Has been burnt or scalded = Has an eye injury = Has been overcome by fumes or gas = May have been poisoned or exposed to harmful substance

Be able to:- = Recognise major illnesses and take appropriate action = Recognise minor illnesses and take appropriate action = Manage the transportation of a casualty, as required by the circumstances of the workplace

Course Outcomes :  = To provide recognised standards of First Aid care in the workplace = Compliance with current Health and Safety Legislation

The course can be run over:- = Four consecutive days of training = Two sessions of two days' training = Four sessions of one day's training

Assessment by external verifiers will take place on the final afternoon of training.

On successful completion of this training and assessment certification valid for 3 years will be issued.



Course Title : First Aid at Work re-Qualification
Duration : 12 Hours Course Code : FA02

This Course is for : People who hold a current First Aid at Work Certificate and are due for renewal.

Course Aims : To update candidates in the practical skills and knowledge required to deal with any First Aid emergency.

Course Contents : = Principles of First Aid = Communication and Delegation = Respiration and Asphyxia = Resuscitation = Burns and Scalds = Personal hygiene = Hepatitis B = Tetanus = Wounds and Bleeding = Recognition and treatment of bleeding = Shock = Eye injuries = Eye irrigation = Record keeping and accident reporting = First aid kits and contents = First aid supplies/purchasing = Causes and treatment of unconsciousness = Poisons = Fractures = Recognition of illness = Minor injuries and their treatment 

Course Outcomes : = To renew current HSE recognised First Aid at Work Qualification in compliance with current Health and Safety Legislation

On successful completion of this training and assessment certification valid for 3 years will be issued.



Course Title : Emergency Aid for Appointed Persons and Those with Identified Specific Needs
Duration : 6 Hours Course Code : FA03

This Course is for : Employees designated as the 'Appointed Person' and those with other specified needs.

Course Aims : To provide candidates with a basic understanding of First Aid Legislation. To give candidates to either fulfil the role of Appointed Person and/or administer First Aid in specific situations.

Course Contents : = Insight into Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations = Managing and accident = Priorities of First Aid = Blood Loss = Treatment of an unconscious casualty = Treatment of shock = Treatment of a heart attack = General discussion on common workplace injuries

Course Outcomes : = To equip candidates with knowledge of the role of Appointed Person = The ability to carry out basic First Aid procedures

On successful completion of this training and assessment certification valid for 3 years will be issued.



Course Title : First Aid Skills Update
Duration : 6 Hours Course Code : FA04

This Course is for : People who hold a current Appointed person certificate.

Course Aims : To ensure candidates' basic First Aid knowledge and practice is maintained.

Course Contents : The course is tailor-made to meet the candidates' requirements or to update knowledge of their First Aid at Work training.

Course Outcomes : To ensure up to date knowledge of theoretical and practical First Aid responsibilities

On successful completion of this training and assessment certification valid for 3 years will be issued.

 



Course Title : Emergency First Aid for Those Working with Young People
Duration : 4 Hours Course Code : FA05

This Course is for : Anyone who is around youngsters wanting or needing to learn emergency first aid.

Course Aims : To provide candidates with the skills and knowledge required to deal with a first aid emergency involving children.

Course Contents : = Resuscitation Techniques = The Recovery Position = Febrile Convulsions = Choking = Poisoning = Burns and Scalds = Bleeding = Childhood Conditions

Course Outcomes : = Theoretical understanding of First Aid with particular reference to children = Practical experience of first aid techniques

Up to 12 candidates can be accommodated on this course.

Persons attending this course will be issued with a certificate of attendance.
